Boats and Art for the Miami Art week

Sail/Canvas – Canvas/Sail is one of Daniel Buren’s landmark works, consisting of two key elements: a regatta featuring nine Sunfish sailboats fitted with the artist’s custom-made striped sails, followed by an exhibition of the sails displayed as paintings.

Show how the beach and boats are used as canvas for art

Originally conceived and enacted in Berlin in 1975, the work exemplifies Buren’s signature use of stripes, which he refers to as a ‘visual tool.’ The title, translating to Sail/Canvas – Canvas/Sail, underscores the dialogue between two major traditions of 20th-century modernism, referencing both abstract painting and the readymade. The project begins with a regatta where sailors race boats adorned with nine Buren-designed sails. Later, the sails are exhibited at the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), their arrangement determined by the order in which the boats complete the race.

Capt. Randy, founder/ CEO, as former Sunfish sailor, was invited to participate in this regatta, and of course he did it wearing our Miami Yachting colors. It was amazing to see from the Museum all these small sailboats sailing in front of the Museum with the Port of Miami and the super yacht marina as back ground.

Art and sailing is definitely a good mix and we are proud to be part of this kind of events in our city.
